What is the Benin BESC Certificate?
The Benin BESC Certificate, also known as an ECTN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note), is a mandatory document for all exports to Benin. It ensures cargo movements within the country are properly tracked, preventing smuggling and unauthorized shipments.
Since 2006, Benin Customs authorities have required this certificate for all goods being unloaded at the Port of Cotonou or any other Benin ports. Without a valid ECTN, shipments cannot enter Benin or transit through neighboring countries like Burkina Faso or Niger. Make sure your shipment complies with all regulations to avoid delays and penalties.
Certificate Requirements
To apply for a Benin BESC Certificate, the following documents must be provided:
- Bill of Lading – A draft copy can be used for the draft.
- Commercial Invoice
- Freight Invoice – It is necessary if the freight cost isn’t on the commercial invoice.
- Export Customs Declaration – Details have to be the same across all documents if it is not cross-trade
- Packing List – Details have to be the same as the Commercial Invoice
Make sure that all documents are finalized and free from errors before submission. The certificate ensures a smooth customs clearance at the Port of Cotonou and minimizes the risk of delays. To get assistance, email the required documents in PDF format to info@ectnindia.com. Physical copies are not needed for the issuance of the certificate.
